چکیده

To expose the medical student to a meaningful, clinically oriented geriatric medical experience. OBJECTIVES To provide the student with a truly Ahands-on@ rotation in the following setting: outpatient geriatrics where assessment on care planning takes place with the medical student providing important information. The inpatient, nursing home and day care experience will be less emphasized during the rotation. I. Patient care – to provide the student with an interactive rotation in outpatient geriatrics for the practice of health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis, care plan and treatment of the older adult population during health and all stages of illness. II. Medical knowledge – to provide the scientific method of problem solving, evidence based decision making, an attitude of caring derived from human and professional values and a commitment to lifelong learning of established and evolving sciences. III. Practice-based learning and improvement – demonstrate the ability to investigate and evaluate care of patients, incorporate formative evaluation feedback into daily practice with emphasis on the team approach to the delivery of patient care. IV. Interpersonal and communication skills – communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, other healthcare professionals and health related agencies across a broad range of cultural, socio-economical and professional backgrounds. V. Professionalism – provide accountability, compassion, integrity and respect for others, respect for patient privacy and autonomy, sensitivity and responsiveness to a diverse patient population. VI. Systems-based Practice – Coordinate patient care within the health care system and community relevant to their clinical specialty, incorporate cost awareness and risk-benefit analysis, work in inter-professional teams to improve patient care quality and identify and implement potential systems solutions.
